On a recent telephone call with a potential client and after having quickly reviewed their site I was asked why I had suggested an SEO Audit. Their reply went along the lines of ‘can’t you just do the audit over the phone and then get stuck into the work?’
The site had had at least 2 previous SEO agencies that failed to impress and there were clearly complex issues holding the site back. Cheap SEO wasn’t going to work on this site.
Our response was you wouldn’t undergo treatment or surgery without a proper diagnosis by a specialist. Why would you go ahead and treat the health of your website and your business on a 20-minute call without a full analysis.
An SEO audit is a health check on your website, and involves an in depth review and evaluation of your web pages by a specialist.
What are the benefits of an SEO Audit?
It’s a starting point to uncover issues that are holding you back from better rankings and higher positions in search engines. It offers an opportunity to analyse the issues and create a roadmap with the solution and actions to implement and a timeframe to get this done.
Do you offer a Free Audit?
No, most companies that offer free SEO audits just run automated software that produces a report that offers little value.
We offer comprehensive paid SEO audits, written by specialists that will study your website, your analytics, your Google Search Console reports, and deep dive into the issues that may be holding your site and business back. We’ll propose solutions, and assign priorities and tasks. This takes time and analysis and is where we add our value.
What does an SEO audit cover?
Our SEO audit covers;
- Discovery
- Current Performance & Benchmarking
- Technical SEO Audit
- Keyword Research
- Competitor Research & Competitor Comparison
- Content Audit & Content Gap Analysis
- On-Site SEO review
- Backlink Analysis including those of Competitors
How long does an SEO audit take?
Typically an audit takes 2 weeks to complete. Bigger sites with more complex issues can take longer, as an example an international site with thousands and thousands of pages would take longer to diagnose the issues and propose solutions than a smallish 20 page website. The cost of an audit would also differ depending on the complexity.
Does every website need a full comprehensive Audit?
Smaller sites with less issues may not need a full comprehensive in depth analysis and audit particularly where its a short term project with less than competitive terms. Your SEO agency can still do a smaller internal audit for themselves and plan out their roadmap.
What tools do you use to write your Audits?
Our audits are manually written though we will use tools to speed up and provide further analysis. Below some of the tools we’d use.
- Screamingfrog
- Ahrefs
- SemRush
- Google Analytics
- Majestic
- Google Search Console
- AWR
How often should you get an SEO audit?
If you have a big site with new content being regularly added, for instance an ecommerce site with products updated and removed, it’s important to get your site audited annually.
When would you typically need an audit?
When your site is under-performing, your competitors are appearing above you and aren’t doing as well as you’d expect for your keywords then it would be worth getting your site audited.
If your site is under-performing and you can’t understand why, and you need an SEO agency to conduct an audit then get in touch.
